Travel Information
Traveling to Bhutan
Bhutan is an amazing experience. The landscape is breathtaking, the people very kind friendly, and the climate ranges from warm valleys and mango trees to windy roads around snow capped mountains.
Travel in Bhutan is all inclusive. The government wishes tourism to employ its people, so it is mandatory that you travel with a guide. Eastern Horizons uses locally trained guides who bring their knowledge, enthusiasm for sharing their country and interest in meeting every travelers individual needs.
Flying in to Bhutan: most tourists arrive and depart from Bhutan by air. Since there are presently no transcontinental or long- haul flight connections, in order to reach Paro, Bhutan, travelers will have to fly from one of the six neighboring gateway cities: Delhi, Bangkok, Kathmandu, Dhaka, Kolkata, or Gaya. The most competitive air fares are usually available from Delhi or Bangkok. Druk Air, the national airline, is the only airline flying into Bhutan.
Land entry or exit points for tourists are through Phuntsholing, on the southwestern border with India, and through the southeastern town of Samdrup Jongkhar, which also borders India and takes you to the town of Guwhati, India. However, tourists are obliged to use Druk Air on either the inbound or outbound sector of their trip to Bhutan. Flights into Paro are available only several times a week from each city, but there are almost daily flights out of Paro. The schedule also varies in the summer and winter.
